My Sisters’
Place
started its first homeless shelter on Capen Street in Hartford in 1982.
For nearly 25 years, we were the only shelter in
Hartford capable of caring for both mother and
child. Now we operate three separate facilities providing numerous
programs and services. During a typical year, My Sisters’ Pla ce will serve over 600 women and children by providing housing, food, and other basic needs. We are fortunate to have a dedicated staff, an extremely qualified Board of Directors, tireless volunteers, and generous donors and funders.
Despite all of our efforts, just as many people in need of shelter were turned away due to lack of space. Last year alone, Hartford area shelters had to turn away 2,000
women, children and men. Unfortunately, the need continues to grow, and we must struggle to find a way to service the needs of those in our care.
